Nyla Matuk is a poet living in Tiohtà :ke (so-called Montreal). Her poetry collections include Sumptuary Laws and Stranger, and an edited anthology, Resisting Canada. Her work has appeared in several magazines and anthologies in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. including The New Yorker, PN Review, The Poetry Review, The Walrus, Best Canadian Poetry, New Poetries VI, and Poetry Ireland Review. Born in Winnipeg (Treaty 1), her ancestral roots lie in Palestine, Bokhara (present-day Uzbekistan), and Afghanistan. She was interviewed recently in Evan Jones’ The Civilizing Discourse: Interviews with Canadian Poets (2024).
