Hi Friends,
Big welcome to all the new subscribers! There’s been an uptick in subscriptions lately, and I’m grateful for your interest, time, and attention!
In Issue 20, Lisa Robertson shares a tweet memoir, Kirby writes about a reading and meeting of two bi-coastal poets at Great Escape Bookstore, and behold the Send My Love to Anyone October Gatherings below!
ICYMI, in Issue 19, Rebecca Fisseha shares a journal entry from early in the writing process of her most recent novel , and she describes this journal as “a testament to the utter unpredictability of the creative process” because a project she was journaling in 2009 “morphed into a … rom-com!”.
The audio versions of Susan Mockler’s excerpt of her memoir Fracture (Issue 18) is now available as are Kirby’s first two columns “Are All Booksellers Dreamers?” and “hearts ears eyes”.
If you are a past contributor and would like to create an audio version of your work, please get in touch.
And SMLTA Writing Prompts are back with a collaborative writing exercise.
In other news, I’ve been invited to talk about writer newsletters for the Federation of BC Writers Mini Summit November 25, 2022 at 11:00am (Pacific).
Having two years in the newsletter game, I have many many thoughts to share!
Let me know if you have questions about newsletters, and I’ll try to include them in the talk. It will be recorded as well.
I’ve been listening to many audio books lately. I’m currently listening to Nomenclature: New and Collected Poems by Dionne Brand, I’m making my way through Annie Ernaux’s novellas, and I’m listening to Poetry is Queer by Kirby, an excerpt is available on Bandcamp.
Other gatherings include Arc Magazine’s submission call for disabled writers and Wordstock Sudbury’s Masterclass with Tanis MacDonald on November 5, 2022. If you’re looking for a horror movie to watch, I highly recommend The Retreat!
Check out the rest of the October gatherings below!
Hope you enjoy this issue!
Kathryn
