oh my god, I can't stop laughing. There's no way in hell I could get my kids to read this book. I don't think a hundred dollars would do it.
A book I refused to read was A Day No Pigs Would Die. Even though the title said expressly that no pigs would die, I had a bad feeling that pigs would die.
I wonder if the very last student to choose, behind you, was just as disappointed. I wonder what were the other three books, already selected, which would have been amazing. I wonder if Boat is any easier to read beyond those opening paragraphs. I wonder if you'd've fared any better with The Dog Who Wouldn't Be, or if it was a Mowat-thing-in-general.
I did ask a classmate whether they hated the book, and they did not. I have no memory of the other three books--only that they would have been better than what I got! Unfortunately I never gave Mowat another chance. Interesting the person he tried to sail the boat with was publisher Jack McClelland.
That's all so interesting: I loved this piece and the asides (McMaster U has some letters related to the project it turns out). I never read Mowat in school, but his books were always around, so I have no good reason for that!

Now I want to know about the pool hall. I think I refused to read David Copperfield
I never read it either. I think I don't like adventures!!!
